Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a €1.8 billion deal (US$2.1 billion) to construct two Seaside EVO ships for MSC Cruises.

Accommodating up to 5,646 passengers each, the 169,380DWT Seaside EVO newbuilds will be 339 metres long and have 41-metre beams. They will be delivered in 2021 and 2023.

Ultra-hydrodynamic with its optimised hull lines, propellers and rudders, the EVO ships will be equipped with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, an advanced active emissions control technology system, exhaust gas cleaning (EGC) technology, waste management and recycling systems, advanced water treatment systems and an advanced energy and heat recovery system.

This deal replaces a previous agreement to build a third Seaside-class ship that was scheduled for a 2021 delivery.
