MSC, Chantiers de l’Atlantique to equip cruise ship with solid oxide fuel cells
Published on

MSC and Chantiers de l'Atlantique are set to collaborate on the integration of a new solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology demonstrator on board the first of MSC's four World-class cruise ships.

This demonstrator, with an output power of 50 kW, will produce electricity and heat using LNG. It is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 30 per cent compared to conventional dual fuel LNG engines.

The SOFC-equipped vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2022.
