TUI Group's Marella Cruises has confirmed that the 1984-built vessel Marella Celebration will be retired from service earlier than initially planned.

Marella Cruises said that the vessel had originally been scheduled to continue operational sailings through to the summer of 2021.

Capable of accommodating up to 1,350 passengers, Marella Celebration was originally built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique for Holland America Line, with which it sailed under the name Noordam. The vessel was acquired by Thomson Cruises in 2005 and remained with the company after it became Marella Cruises in 2017.

Marella has not disclosed whether the vessel will be sold to another cruise operator or scrapped.
