Lisbon Cruise Port will open its new €24.0 million (US$27.8 million) terminal on November 10.
Designed by Portuguese architect João Luís Carrilho da Graça and constructed over a two-year period, the terminal covers about 13,800 square metres over three floors and will provide about 1,500 metres of pier to cater for various sizes of ships.
It will feature two fully-automated gangway systems, on-site equipment including cranes and forklift trucks, and be able to supply vessels with check-in facilities, water supplies and other provisions while in dock.
Global Ports Holding (GPH), which built and operates Lisbon Cruise Port, said the terminal was built with the idea of creating a seamless extension of the cruise ship while it is in port, providing excellent facilities for embarking and disembarking.
"Visitors passing through the terminal will be able to enjoy the shopping and catering services, as well as the terrace with a panoramic view," it said.
The port is expecting a small increase on the 522,444 cruise passengers handled in 2016 with a bigger share of turnarounds.
