Lindblad has signed an agreement with a Norwegian builder to build the world's "foremost expedition ship".

The polar newbuild will be built in Ulsteinvik and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020. There is also an option for two additional ships to be delivered in subsequent years.

Incorporating sustainability solutions to reduce its environmental impact, the vessel will feature an X-bow, zero-speed stabilisers and fuel and water tanks that allow for extended operations in remote areas.

The 69 guest cabins and suites will include 12 cabins for solo travellers. About 75 per cent of the cabins have balconies, while multiple observation decks and observation wings improve accessibility.

Off-ship exploring will be greatly enhanced with a Zodiac loading system that allows everyone to get ashore quickly and safely. Exploration tools will include kayaks, cross-country skis, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), hydrophones, a video microscope, underwater video cameras and a helicopter landing platform.

The spa and fitness area will include treatment rooms, saunas, fitness room, relaxation area, yoga room and two infinity jacuzzis.

Dining offerings include a main restaurant and an outdoor barbecue and bistro.
