Norwegian cruise operator Hurtigruten formally named its newest expedition ship in a ceremony in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, on Tuesday, September 14.
Fridtjof Nansen was named in honour of a famed Norwegian Polar explorer and scientist. It has a length of 140 metres, a beam of 23 metres, capacity for 530 passengers, and a battery hybrid propulsion system.
Norwegian shipyard Kleven Verft delivered the newbuild to Hurtigruten in December 2019.
Fridtjof Nansen is the second in a series of battery hybrid expedition ships ordered by Hurtigruten. The first ship, Roald Amundsen, was delivered in mid-2019.
