A steel-cutting ceremony has been held for Crystal Cruises' expedition yacht Crystal Endeavor at MV Werften's Stralsund site in Germany.
Set to debut in 2020, Crystal Endeavor will be the largest purpose-built Polar-class ship, and will feature two helicopters and two landing pads for "flightseeing" expeditions, two seven-person submarines, eight electric amphibious zodiacs, jet skis, wave runners, kayaks, paddle boards, snorkelling and scuba equipment, a recompression chamber, dive support tender and a multi-person all-terrain vehicle.
Measuring 183 metres long, the 25,000GT newbuild will feature 100 guest suites for expeditions in Arctic, Antarctic and tropical regions.
The megayacht will have Polar Class 6 designation to cruise in polar regions during the summer and autumn in medium first-year ice.
It is named after Captain James Cook's research ship HMS Endeavour, which discovered Australia in 1770 and New Zealand months earlier.
