The Irish Naval Service commissioned the offshore patrol vessel (OPV) LÉ George Bernard Shaw on Tuesday, April 30.

The final one of four Samuel Beckett-class OPVs designed by Vard and built by Babcock Marine Appledore, the vessel honours Irish writer and playwright George Bernard Shaw.

Like its sisters, George Bernard Shaw has a length of 90 metres, a beam of 14 metres, and a speed of 23 knots. Armament consists of a 76-millimetre naval gun, two 20-millimetre autocannons, and four 7.62-millimetre machine guns.

Secondary missions include dive support, search and rescue (SAR), and deployment of unmanned vehicles.
