Boskalis will convert numerous DP2-capable vessels within its Offshore Energy division into hybrid vessels through the retrofitting of energy storage systems (ESS).
The company said the conversions will reduce the vessels' fuel consumption and associated CO2 and NOx emissions by an average of up to twenty per cent. The systems will also provide a power supply and energy storage facility while the vessels are berthed and will contribute to quieter and more efficient operations offshore.
The modifications will be completed over the next two years.
The vessels to be retrofitted include the crane vessels Bokalift 1 (pictured) and Bokalift 2, two construction support vessels, and two diving support vessels.
