Barcelona-based ship designer Marcelo Penna Engineering has unveiled a trimaran fast supply and intervention vessel (FSV) it believes can be a cost-effective alternative to helicopters for long-range crew transfers.

Technical Manager Javier Lopez said the 60-metre FSV combines a stable trimaran hullform with dynamic positioning class 2 (DP2) and fire-fighting to FiFi 1 standard.

The design can be customised for crew and personnel transfer, fast supply, emergency response and rescue, rig evacuation and oil spill response.

Capable of attaining transit speeds of up to 35 knots while minimising fuel consumption, the design has a range of more than 3,500 nautical miles. It has a top speed of 41 knots.

Seating up to 200 people, depending on configuration, the 625DWT vessel has a usable working deck area of more than 355 square metres, enabling it to carry 11 containers, a motion-compensated crew transfer gangway and a knuckleboom crane.

It can also be used to carry spare parts, project equipment and consumables.

MEP says a number of offshore access/walk-to-work systems are suitable for use on the vessel.

A fast rescue craft can be installed on the main deck to the starboard side, with the compensated crew transfer system amidships to the port or starboard side.
