Solstad Offshore has been awarded a contract with Global Sea Mineral Resources (GSR) for the construction support vessel Normand Reach.

The contract will commence in the fourth quarter of 2018 and has a duration of four to six months.

Normand Reach will work side-by-side with the German research vessel Sonne under the JPI Oceans project Mining Impact II.

Under the project, the two vessels will perform an independent scientific assessment of the environmental impacts generated during testing of the mining ROV Patania II as it collects polymetallic nodules in water depths down to 5,000 metres below the surface.

The vessels will operate in the Belgian and German Licence Areas in the Pacific Ocean for the duration of the contract.
