Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has had its contract to service the 504MW Greater Gabbard wind farm off the east coast of the UK extended until 2022.
SGRE has carried out operations and maintenance services since 2013 and will continue scheduled servicing, troubleshooting and technical support at the 140-turbine site 23 kilometres off the Suffolk coast.
Onshore 24/7 monitoring and diagnostics of each of the £1.6 billion (US$2.09 billion) wind farm turbines will take place at the company's dedicated control room in Newcastle upon Tyne.
It is the most recent of three significant service contract extensions for more than 350 offshore wind turbines in the United Kingdom. It also secured 10-year service agreements for the 175-turbine London Array wind farm, and the 54-turbine Lynn and Inner Dowsing wind farms.
It brings the number of individual turbines monitored in real time to more than 3,200 at 128 wind farms (onshore and offshore) with an output capacity of 9.5GW.
