The Spanish government, through the Ministry for Ecological Transition, recently unveiled plans to achieve an offshore wind generating capacity of between one and three GW by 2030.

Ministry officials said that achieving the 3GW offshore wind capacity goal will mean Spain will be able to contribute around 40 per cent of the European target total of seven GW by the end of the decade.

The ministry said that measures towards achieving the objective will include crafting of an updated regulatory framework, aid in further research and development, and assessment and improvement of the necessary port infrastructure. Under the port infrastructure measure, the government said it is set to invest anywhere between €500 million (US$589 million) and €1 billion (US$1.18 billion).
