MPI Offshore has been chosen to transport and install offshore wind turbine foundations and substations at the GB£2 billion (US$2.6 billion) Triton Knoll wind farm project.

The UK-based MPI will install a total of 92 monopile foundations and transition pieces, plus two offshore substations as part of a turnkey contract at the 860MW East Coast project.

The MPI jack-up vessel will lift, transport and install all the foundations.

The joint venture between Statkraft and Innogy, which is managing the project, aims to deliver at least 50 per cent of UK content across the project lifecycle.

Offshore construction is expected to start in 2020, with first energy generation tipped as early as mid-Q1 2021.
