Sembcorp Marine subsidiary Sembcorp Marine Rigs and Floaters has signed agreements with joint venture companies of India's Shapoorji Pallonji Oil and Gas and Malaysia's Bumi Armada to convert the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Ariake into a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for deployment in the east coast of India.

Once conversion work is completed in the second half of 2021, the FPSO will be able to produce up to 90,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and have a 1.3-million-barrel storage facility.

The project includes hull repairs and upgrading as well as fabrication of at least three topside modules which Sembcorp Marine will install on the vessel. Conversion will be carried out at the company's Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore.
