Two people are confirmed to have died in an incident on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel operated by BW Offshore in Côte d'Ivoire on Thursday, January 14.
The mishap occurred as maintenance work was being performed in a cargo tank on board the FPSO Espoir Ivoirien operating on the Espoir field.
BW Offshore said the incident was caused by a leakage of hydrocarbons into the tank where the work was being performed. Production at the FPSO has since been shut down and the leak has been contained within the cargo tank, with all personnel accounted for.
The company added that the two fatalities' next of kin have been informed about the incident.
The FPSO is operated by BW Offshore for CNR International. Both companies are cooperating with local authorities in addressing the situation.
