Polish shipbuilder Crist has laid the keel of a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) ordered by German offshore services company Bernhard Schulte Offshore.

The CSOV is the second in a series being built jointly by Crist and Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft. Following construction of the hull, it will be transported to Norway for final outfitting.

Upon completion, the vessel will measure 89.6 by 19.2 metres and will feature a unique hull design with a dual stern and bow and main propeller units at each end. Ulstein said this arrangement can ensure enhanced manoeuvrability, smoother motions, higher comfort, and increased operability, making it suitable for complex operations.

The hull design will also deliver improved performance in either direction, thus eliminating the need to constantly adjust the vessel's direction in response to changing weather.

The two CSOVs are scheduled for delivery in 2025, after which they will be put to work supporting activities at offshore wind farms.

Both vessels will be built to DNV class requirements.
