Waterschap Scheldestromen, the water management authority in the Dutch city of Middelburg, has awarded Holland Shipyards Group a contract for the construction of a new survey vessel.
The newbuilding will enter service by the end of 2021 to replace an older vessel in the Waterschap Scheldestromen survey fleet.
The 15.15- by 4.9-metre vessel will be designed for operations up to five nautical miles off the Zeeland coast. It will be provided with two permanent magnet motors, each with a capacity of 85 kW, and a generator set with variable speed, ensuring optimal fuel consumption and operational reliability by switching generators on and off automatically.
For hydrographic survey duties, it will be equipped with both a single-beam and multi-beam echosounder.
The design also takes into account future plans to be converted into a battery-powered full electric vessel.
Construction will start in March at Holland Shipyards Group's facilities in Werkendam.
