Rowan Companies' N-Class ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig Rowan Viking has been awarded a five-wells program by Shell UK for plugging and abandonment work on the Goldeneye platform in the central North Sea.

The contract is expected to start in June and continue for about 100 days, following completion of Rowan Viking's project with Lundin in Norway.

The unmanned Goldeneye gas platform, which ceased production in 2011, operated in 120 metres of water about 130 kilometres north-east of Aberdeen, Scotland.
