The latest string of recently awarded and completed offshore projects covers a broad range of work types including installation, decommissioning, and subsea surveys. Although Western Europe continues to be the centre of activity, noteworthy developments are also in the pipeline in other regions like the Middle East and South East Asia.
Acta Marine walk-to-work vessel wraps up three-year maintenance campaign for Ocean Breeze
Dutch marine contractor Acta Marine recently completed its three-year maintenance campaign for Germany's Ocean Breeze on the Bard Offshore 1 wind farm. The walk-to-work vessel Acta Auriga started the O&M works on Bard in April 2018 just weeks after the vessel's delivery from the shipyard.
Acta Auriga had replaced two maintenance vessels that were initially performing the O&M scope on the project.
After a short maintenance stop at Royal Niestern Sander, the vessel will continue to work in the UK offshore wind market as construction support vessel.
Saipem secures scope extension from Qatargas
Qatargas has exercised two options for the additional scope of work by Saipem within the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Project.
The additional scope of work of the two options is worth approximately US$350 million and is related to rerouting of the hydrocarbons from existing wellhead platform through the new facilities, due to the existing pipeline being decommissioned.
The activities to be carried out comprise the construction of two additional riser platforms, two additional connecting bridges with existing wellhead platforms, two corrosion-resistant carbon steel cladded intra-field pipelines with a length of 13 kilometres overall, and decommissioning of the existing pipeline.
Heerema awarded installation contract for Sofia wind farm
Heerema Marine Contractors has entered into a contract with Singapore's Sembcorp Marine to transport and install an HVDC offshore converter platform for the Sofia offshore wind farm in UK waters.
The platform's fabrication will be executed at Sembcorp Marine's yard, and offshore installation is scheduled for 2024. Heerema will install the platform using the semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) Sleipnir.
Shearwater to perform 3D survey in Vietnam
Shearwater GeoServices has been awarded contract to perform a 3D seismic survey in Vietnam on behalf of an unnamed repeat customer.
The two-and-a-half-month project will commence in April 2021 and will be conducted by SW Vespucci.
Fugro tapped for site characterisation in support of Danish Energy Island project
Danish state-owned grid operator Energinet has awarded Fugro a marine site characterisation contract for the Danish Energy Island project in the North Sea.
The contract is part of Energinet's preliminary studies to build the world's first "hub and spoke" energy scheme: an energy island 80 kilometres off the Danish coast that will act as a transmission centre for hundreds of surrounding wind turbines.
Fugro will perform geophysical and unexploded ordnance (UXO) magnetometry surveys, which will be used to prepare an integrated geological and geotechnical soil model on which wind farm developers will base future tenders.
The fieldwork will run from May to November 2021, resuming in February and March 2022, and will comprise two phases. Phase one will deliver the geophysical surveys, including seabed sampling and soil data down to at least 100 metres below the seabed while phase two will be the UXO magnetometry survey.
Fugro ROVs to perform cable route survey for Italian power grid company
Fugro has been selected by Terna, owner of the Italian national transmission grid (NTG) for high and extra-high voltage power, to perform a large multidisciplinary survey for part of the Tyrrhenian Link, a project to install two undersea HVDC electrical power cables connecting the Italian peninsula with the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.
Fugro will survey the East Link section of the project, which will connect Campania on the mainland to Sicily via the installation of two 480-kilometre submarine cables and two submarine electrodes.
The reconnaissance multibeam survey has already begun and will be followed by a detailed marine geophysical survey utilising Fugro's fleet of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Both surveys will acquire comprehensive geo-data that will be used to provide geohazard risk mitigation advice to help Terna identify the final cable installation routes.
