Van Oord has completed installing more than 40 kilometres of inter array cables for the 269MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

The cable laying vessel Nexus (pictured) was used to install a smart web of cables at 40 metres water depth. The vessel installed at a rate of up to three cables per 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Van Oord's remote controlled trencher Dig-It has been deployed to bury the previously laid cables to the required depth of 1.5 metres below the seabed while the offshore installation vessel Aeolus has installed the first 8.4MW turbine at the site.

Commissioning of the wind farm, which is owned by Canada-based Northland Power, is expected to take place in the second half of 2019.
