Van Oord has been awarded a contract by Ørsted for cable installation works at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
Van Oord will be responsible for the transportation, installation, and burial of the 111 inter array cables, with a total length of approximately 135 kilometres, and the three export cables, with a total of approximately 145 kilometres.
The company will deploy the cable-laying vessel Nexus (pictured), equipped with a cable carousel with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes, while the trencher Dig-It will bury the cables to the required depth.
The installation work will begin in 2021.
The 900MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a wind farms are located between 35 and 60 kilometres off the west coast of Changhua County. The wind farms are expected to supply electricity to approximately one million Taiwanese households per year once they become operational in 2022.
