Jan De Nul Group has successfully completed installation of all 20 foundations on the 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 wind farm in Taiwan.
The installation vessel Seaway Yudin was used to install the 20 foundations, each of which consists of a monopile and transition piece structure with a grouted connection. The monopiles range from 752 to 1,230 tonnes in displacement with a maximum diameter of 8.4 metres and a length ranging from 60.1 to 79.5 metres.
Each of the transition pieces weigh 465 tonnes and consists of five internal platforms, an external platform, and boat landing.
The Formosa 1 offshore wind farm is located around six kilometres off the west coast of the Miaoli district in the Taiwan Strait, with water depths ranging between 15 and 30 metres.
The project comprises two phases: phase 1 of two wind turbines with a total capacity of 8 MW. Extended from phase 1, this second phase will add 20 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 120 MW to Formosa 1's current 8MW capacity.
Formosa 1 will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in Taiwan before 2020.
