Edinburgh-based marine construction company Sustainable Marine has taken delivery of a new multi-purpose workboat from Neptune Marine of the Netherlands.

Tidal Pioneer has a length of 26 metres, a beam of 11 metres, and a draught of 3.2 metres, making it suitable for nearshore tidal energy construction works. Propulsive power is provided by two Caterpillar C32 IMO Tier III main engines while two Volvo D13 generator sets supply electricity for various equipment including two cranes and an anchor handling winch.

The BV-classed vessel will mainly be used in the building and maintenance of tidal energy projects in Nova Scotia, hence its sailing under the Canadian flag.
