Van Oord has ordered two LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD) each with a hopper capacity of 10,500 cubic metres.

To be built by Keppel Singmarine at its yard in Singapore, the 138-metre by 28-metre hoppers will replace existing vessels.

The vessels will be equipped with a suction pipe with submerged e-driven dredge pump, two shore discharge dredge pumps, five bottom doors, and a total installed power of 14,500kW.

They will have accommodation for 22 people.

Designed in-house with DEKC Maritime, the Dutch-flagged vessels will qualify as Tier III vessels (IMO emission standards) with dual-fuel engines and will obtain a Green Passport and Clean Ship Notation.

The TSHDs will be used for coastal protection, port construction, deepening waterways and land reclamation.

Both will be delivered in 2021.
