A consortium consisting of Van Oord, BAM, and Rebel has been awarded a contract to carry out reinforcement work on the Afsluitdijk Dam along Lake Ijsselmeer and the Wadden Sea in the Netherlands.
The 87-year-old dam will undergo repairs that will ensure the continuation of its service life until at least 2050. The work will encompass raising and reinforcement of 32 kilometres of dike to further improve the dam's ability to protect against flooding even amid rising sea levels and changing climate conditions.
Maintenance on the dam is expected to be carried out over a period of 25 years.
Van Oord will deploy various equipment including a trailing suction hopper dredger and a crane vessel for the project.
