The US Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, has awarded a US$4.9 million maintenance dredging contract to Cottrell Contracting for work in Norfolk Harbour, Virginia.

The contract is for the maintenance and minor new-work dredging of the Norfolk Harbour and Craney Island Reach, and Portsmouth marine terminals access channels and berthing areas.

The maintenance dredging is required for a depth of 16 metres.

During the work, Cottrell will remove about 500,000 cubic metres of dredged material, including allowable over-depth dredging.

The dredging in Portsmouth Marine Terminal Access Channel and Berthing Area involves removal of 91,000 cubic metres of material.

The contractor will use its cutter suction dredgers and pipeline all dredged material to the designated placement area at Craney Island.

The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.
