The Philippine government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), began dredging operations along Metro Manila's Tullahan-Tinajeros River System on Monday, February 24.

The sediment removal works will be jointly carried out by the DENR and local conglomerate San Miguel Corporation on a 5.25-kilometre stretch of the 36-kilometre river system that passes through the Metro Manila coastal cities of Malabon and Navotas.

The Tullahan-Tinajeros River System, which starts from La Mesa Dam in Quezon City and ends at Centennial Park in Navotas City, had become one of the major sources of silt that ends up in Manila Bay.
