One person is feared to have died following a vessel capsizing incident in the Swedish port of Trelleborg on Wednesday, February 17.
The incident occurred on the afternoon (local time) of Wednesday when the dredger Margrethe Fighter keeled over while assisting in the construction of a berth at one of the ferry terminals at the port.
The crew of a nearby Stena Line ferry rushed to the scene in lifeboats to render aid to the dredger's occupants.
The ferry crew were able to pull two individuals out of the water. Both survivors have since been brought to hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
Margrethe Fighter's owner said that a third crewmember had become trapped inside the dredger and went missing following the capsizing. This individual has not yet been found as of Monday, February 22, despite continuous search and recovery operations by divers in the port's icy waters.
The operation to salvage the capsized dredger began over the weekend and is still ongoing.
