A Dutch yard completes conversion work on an inland vessel to make it suitable for dredging projects, and construction is underway on a Chinese heavy-duty crane ship. Finally, an Indian yard has been selected for the supply of a hybrid dredger ideal for small harbours.
The Holland Shipyards Group has completed conversion work on a Dutch inland vessel to enable it to operate as a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD). The work on the vessel, named Taruma, entailed the installation of advanced dredging equipment such as a complete drag arm system, jet monitors, and a complete jet pump and dredge pump system.
Holland Shipyards said the complete conversion of the vessel also included significant structural modifications. The result is a 1,300-cubic-metre TSHD capable of pumping 2,500 cubic metres of mixed material in one hour and with a dredging depth ranging from eight to 17 metres. Discharging options include a shore connection, a rainbow nozzle, and bottom doors.
Jan De Nul has entered into an agreement with Goa Shipyard of India for the construction of a new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD). The vessel will have plug-in hybrid technology and will be specifically designed to operate in small harbours and marinas.
With a length of 79 metres, the new vessel will be the smallest in Jan De Nul's hopper fleet. It will also have a hopper capacity of 2,000 cubic metres.
The present contract is for one vessel, with a delivery period of 24 months. The agreement also includes an option to construct a second sister vessel.
