Philippine authorities are set to begin dredging works along Manila Bay to remove the silt and pollutants that have accumulated therein.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has stated that the dredging works will start in March at three key sites in Manila, namely, Navotas River, Estero de Vitas in Tondo District, and the 1.5-kilometre stretch between the Manila Yacht Club and the US Embassy building.

The works have an estimated total cost of PHP 47 billion (US$900 million).
