Bangladesh's Payra deep-sea port will be dredged as a matter of urgency in a €550 million (US$648 million) project.

Netherlands-based Jan De Nul Group (JDN) has signed a joint venture agreement with Payra Port Authority (PPA) for the first phase of the project.

JDN will deploy up to nine dredgers from its fleet to reclaim more than 13 million cubic metres to create land and dredge more than 60 million cubic metres to kick-start the development of the new Payra Deep-sea Port.

The government of Bangladesh hopes the investment will help develop the deep-sea port into a major transport hub.
