Jan De Nul Group has completed the capital dredging works for the improvement of Liepaja Port in Latvia.
In order to allow larger vessels to enter and leave the Port of Liepaja fully loaded, an estimated 2.7 million cubic metres of sediment were removed to deepen the port access channel from 12.5 metres to 14.5 metres, and to create a new navigation channel deeper by 14 metres towards one of the main bulk terminals within the port area.
The self-propelled cutter suction dredger Fernão de Magalhães and three split hopper barges were utilised for the works.
