Royal IHC handed over the new cutter suction dredger Mohab Mameesh to Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA) on Thursday, March 18.
The vessel is now ready for official duties after successfully completing commissioning tests on the Dutch coastline and Haringvliet.
Mohab Mameesh has an LOA of 147.4 metres, a total installed power of 29,190 kW, a total installed cutter power of 4,800 kW, a maximum dredging depth of 35 metres, and accommodations for 70 people.
The dredger will primarily be deployed to maintain and improve the artificial sea-level area that connects the Mediterranean and Red seas. As the vessel was designed in close cooperation with the SCA, it has the capacity to work effectively in the harsh conditions of the region.
Mohab Mameesh will be transported to Egypt within this week. Meanwhile, sister vessel Hussain Tantawy is expected to depart for sea trials in the next couple of months.
