Funds secured for Spanish Institute of Oceanography’s newest facility

The Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities will allocate more than €5.2 million (US$5.6 million) for the construction of the new cultivation building of the Oceanographic Centre of Vigo of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. The project has a design period of six months and a construction period of 12 months.

Within the framework of this project, the current cultivation building will be demolished and a new one will be built. The new facility will boast a modern, functional, and energy-efficient design that will have an area of about 2,205 square metres.

The Oceanographic Centre of Vigo is one of the nine oceanographic centres currently available to the Institute of Oceanography. It aids in research in marine sciences and in expanding scientific knowledge of the oceans, the sustainability of fisheries resources, the development of sustainable marine aquaculture, and the preservation and protection of the marine environment.
