A new stern freezer trawler ordered by Russian fishing company Okeanrybflot has been floated out at the facilities of Turkey's Tersan Shipyard.
Vladimir Biryukov is a sister vessel to Georgiy Meshcheryakov, which recently completed sea trials and is undergoing final preparations for delivery to Kamchatka.
The Skipsteknisk-designed, 108- by 20-metre vessels will be among the largest purpose-built factory trawlers in the world once they enter service. Each vessel will also have a maximum endurance of 11 months and accommodations for up to 150 people.
The trawlers are being built according to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class rules covering substantial ice reinforcements, reefer notation, and one-man bridge notation.
The fishing equipment will be optimised for pelagic and semi-pelagic trawling for Alaska pollock in the Sea of Okhotsk and herring, mackerel, and pollock in the Pacific. Two main trawl winches will work in combination with ice trawl gallows and four large pelagic sweep line drums.
