Karstensens launches new trawler for Samherji
Published on

Karstensens Skibsværft, through subsidiary Karstensens Shipyard Poland, has launched a new trawler ordered by Icelandic fishing company Samherji.

The trawler will sail under the name Vilhelm Thorsteinsson and will replace a similarly named vessel which has been operating with the Samherji fleet for over two decades.

Shortly after the launch, Karstensens installed Vilhelm Thorsteinsson's two main engines, wheelhouse, and radar mast. Further installation work will be carried out before the trawler is towed to Karstensens' facilities in Skagen, Denmark, for completion of construction in time for its scheduled delivery in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Once completed, Vilhelm Thorsteinsson will also have capacity for carrying up to 3,000 tonnes of chilled products.
