Ghana: Following the dissolution of the country's fisheries ministry by the President, fishermen are lobbying for its reinstatement.
"We are demanding that the Ministry of Fisheries remains as a substantive ministry and not under any Ministry," the fishermen said in a communiqué they have sent to the government. They have also called for a review of the current 30 metres inshore exclusive zone to 100 metres for canoe fishermen.
The fishermen of Takoradi have said that a full sector ministry was required to deal with the countless challenges the fishing industry had to deal with every year.
