Chinese shipbuilder Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Ship Industry has handed over a new handline fishing vessel to local company Qingdao Jincheng Ocean Fishery.

Lu Qingyuan Yu 018 has an LOA of 76.07 metres, a beam of 11.3 metres, and a deadweight of 1,100 tonnes. The vessel will be used primarily to fish for saury and squid in deeper offshore waters, thus necessitating the ability to conduct long-range sailings.

The propulsion arrangement includes an IMO Tier II-compliant 2,100kW main engine and is optimised to guarantee improved stability and wind resistance even when the vessel is sailing at high speeds. Side thrusters and flap rudders are also fitted to enhance manoeuvrability and to keep emissions as low as possible. The builder said a hybrid structure consisting of vertical and horizontal frames also contributes to the vessel's stability.

The fish hold has capacity for 1,296 cubic metres and its own cooling system while three compressor units ensure a freezing capacity of 150 tonnes per day.

Amenities for the vessel's 60-strong crew include a mess, a galley built in stainless steel, and provision spaces specifically for the storage of vegetables and meat. The crew cabins are each fitted with independent ventilation for enhanced comfort, though the vessel also comes with centralised air conditioning. All interior spaces are made from marine-grade fire-resistant material.
