Norwegian seafood company Intership recently took delivery of a new wellboat built by Spain's Zamakona Yards to a design by Salt Ship Design.
Inter Scotia was built as a slightly larger sister of Inter Atlantic, which was delivered to Intership earlier this year. The newer DNV-classed vessel has an LOA of 76.6 metres, a moulded beam of 17 metres, a design draught of 5.6 metres, a gross tonnage of 3,564, accommodations for 13 crewmembers, a live transport capacity of 2,500 cubic metres, and a hybrid battery propulsion system that can deliver a speed of 11.6 knots.
A Corvus Orca Energy 994kWh energy storage system will operate in conjunction with a heat recovery system and other measures to significantly reduce the vessel's fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The fish handling equipment is supplied by MMC First Process and includes a Peter Taboada reverse osmosis plant that can produce 5,000 cubic metres of fresh water in one day.
Inter Scotia will initially operate in support of a fish farm operator in Scotland. After a few months, the vessel will be taken out of service to allow the installation of a delousing system that utilises both freshwater and low pressure. Intership claims the system will provide the vessel with a gentle and effective means of addressing the problems of lice and amoebic gill disease simultaneously.
