North Yorkshire-based Parkol Marine Engineering has held a naming ceremony for a Scotland-bound trawler being used for scalloping.

Summer Rose was christened at the Whitby yard last month and set sail for Oban, where she will join her Parkol-built sister ships Rois Mhairia and Star of Jura.

Designed by Ian Paton of S C McAllister & Co, Summer Rose features the first full Mitsubishi engine package to be supplied in the UK by Dutch shipyard Padmos and has wiring by Pearson Electrical.

John MacAlister, who is chief executive of John MacAlister (Oban) Ltd, Star Fishing Company and Q VARL Fishing Company, said his son Ian would skipper Summer Rose.
