Avataq, the largest fishing vessel ever to sail under the flag of Greenland, has arrived in Nuuk following its delivery voyage from the facilities of Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros de Murueta.

The Skipsteknisk-designed 82.3- by 18-metre trawler will be used primarily to fish for shrimp but may also be configured for catching Greenland halibut.

Avataq has since sailed on a brief shakedown cruise for its onboard systems to undergo thorough testing. It is scheduled to be formally welcomed into service with local operator Royal Greenland on Saturday, January 18.
