Construction has started at Astilleros Armon's Vigo shipyard on the first of seven fishing ships for Grupo Nueva Pescanova.
It is one of the three 50-metre wet-fish trawlers that will operate for the Spanish firm's Namibian subsidiaries NovaNam and Lalandi.
They are adapted to the needs of its hake processing factory in Lüderitz.
The other four vessels are 32-metre freezer trawlers for shrimp fishing by its Pescamar subsidiary in Mozambique.
The €42.5 million (US$52 million) investment in fleet renewal would provide fuel-efficient vessels with enhanced living and working conditions for crew.
