The Buchan family has signed a contract with the Karstensens shipyard at Skagen for a new pelagic vessel to be delivered in January 2020.
The new Lunar Bow purser-trawler is a Karstensens design and will measure 80 metres length overall with a 16-metre beam.
It will have a Wärtsilä propulsion package with a 10V31 main engine, twin Caterpillar C32 auxiliaries, Karmøy Winch deck equipment and a Johnson Controls RSW system.
The contract was signed at the DanFish exhibition by Knud Degn Karstensen and Kent Damgaard of Karstensens Skibsværft and skipper Alexander John (AJ) Buchan.
"It's a big step up for us and this will be similar to the latest vessels, Kings Cross and Pathway, with similar capacity," said Mr Buchan.
He said that the decision was taken to stick with a vessel capable of alternating between purse seining and trawling.
"We think it's beneficial to have purse seine-caught fish for some markets. We purse seine for mackerel, and trawl for all our other fish."
