Philippine shipbuilder Josefa Slipways floated out two new steel-hulled ringnet fishing vessels in a ceremony in Sual, Pangasinan province, on Monday, February 28.
The 18-metre vessels are being built for the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Upon completion, these will be handed over to local fishers in the country's Ilocos and Eastern Visayas regions.
Officials of the Department of Agriculture, the BFAR's parent agency, said the new vessels will help modernise the municipal fishing fleets operating in the coastal waters of the two regions.
