Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) said in a September 30 press release that a vessel operated by one of its subsidiaries rescued eight fishermen in distress in the Strait of Malacca on Wednesday, September 23.

While the Ro-Ro vessel Kalimantan Leader was sailing from Belawan, Indonesia, to Jakarta, its crew found the fishermen who had gone adrift in the strait following the sinking of their boat.

The Ro-Ro crew then brought the castaways aboard their vessel. All eight fishermen were found to be in good health.

The rescued individuals were later turned over to the Indonesian Coast Guard.
