Two Norwegian owners have placed orders for new trawlers while a new fish farm support workboat has begun operating in Scottish waters. Also of note is a recently delivered unmanned vessel to support the fishing operations of a customer in Peru.

New hybrid workboat enters service with Scotland's Inverlussa

Inverlussa Marine Services of Scotland recently took delivery of a new custom-built workboat from a local shipyard.

Geraldine Mary will be operated on long-term charter with Scottish Sea Farms. It will be used to service larger pens and nets at the charterer's marine farms around Scotland's west coast.

The workboat has a length of 21 metres, a 72-tonne heavy duty deck crane, and accommodations for two full-time crew plus two additional personnel. A hybrid propulsion setup includes a battery pack and harbour generators.

Geraldine Mary is a sister vessel to Helen Rice, which Scottish Sea Farms has operated under contract from Inverlussa for the past two years.

Peruvian company's newest USV to be used for fish finding

Peruvian fishing company TASA has acquired a new unmanned surface vehicle (USV) optimised for fish finding and oceanographic and marine resource monitoring.

The Kongsberg Maritime-built Guardian del Mar will begin operational sailings with its new owners in September of this year. Its duties will be to help improve efficiency of capture operations and strengthen data acquisition capabilities to improve management of the available biomass.

The USV has a length of eight metres, a speed of 12 knots, and an endurance of more than 400 hours. The onboard systems include two echosounders and a low-frequency sonar from Simrad.

The craft will be fitted with situational awareness and collision avoidance technology following later upgrades.

Norway's Hypomar orders locally-built kelp trawler

Norwegian shipyard Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted (FMV) has been awarded a contract to supply a new kelp trawler to local company Alginor.

The future Hypomar Ocean 1 will be operated by Alginor wholly-owned subsidiary Hypomar. It will have an LOA of 24.5 metres, a beam of 10.4 metres, onboard processing facilities, and diesel-electric propulsion.

Design work on the vessel will be provided by local naval architects Solstrand Trading.

Danish yard to supply large trawler/seiner to Norway's Hargun

Denmark's Karstensens Skibsværft has been selected to build a new pelagic trawler/seiner for Norwegian family-owned fishing company Hargun Havfiske.

The 83-metre Hargun will replace a similarly named vessel that has been in operation with the same owners since 1999.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in March 2025. It will be used to catch blue whiting, herring, and mackerel.
