Retired Philippine Navy Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos has been designated as the new Maritime Goodwill Ambassador of the Philippines in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) following his nomination to the post in December last year.
In his role as goodwill ambassador, which is effective until 2023, Santos will serve as the IMO's representative spokesperson promoting careers in the maritime sector among younger Filipinos.
Santos is a graduate of both the Philippine Military Academy and the Naval Command College of the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He also holds a Master of Science degree in computer systems management from the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is currently President of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), having held the position since the academy was established in 1998.
Santos' 33-year military career included a stint as flag officer in-command (FOIC), the overall commander of the Philippine Navy, from 1996 to 1999.
Battery manufacturer the Echandia Group has appointed Roy Storeng to lead its operations in Norway under the newly established Echandia Norway business unit.
Storeng has an extensive background from the maritime and transport industry in Norway and abroad. He earlier held business development positions with GE Transportation and Bertel O. Steen.
Iridium Communications recently welcomed Manjula Sriram as its new Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). Reporting to Chief Financial Officer Tom Fitzpatrick, Sriram is now responsible for leading Iridium's Information Technology (IT) organisation in implementing information systems to support both distributed and centralised business operations.
Sriram joins Iridium with more than twelve years of senior IT management experience. Previously and for the past four years, Sriram was Vice President in the role of CIO for The Joint Chiropractic where she was responsible for the commercial and enterprise IT infrastructure for the company's corporate and clinical operations, servicing approximately 700 standalone chiropractic offices. Prior to this, Sriram spent four years as the Director of Customer Implementation & Support for Early Warning Service, a financial systems company, to provide risk management solutions over a diverse network of 2,300 financial institutions, government entities and payment companies.
Huntington Ingalls Industries has confirmed that Matt Mulherin Jr. has been promoted to vice president of contracts at its Newport News Shipbuilding division. Mulherin assumed the new role on January 3, 2022, succeeding Christie Thomas, who has been appointed corporate vice president, investor relations.
Mulherin will have overall responsibility for contracts, pricing, and export/import licensing and compliance for Newport News. He will report to Don Godwin, Newport News vice president of business management and chief financial officer.
Mulherin joined Newport News in 2004 and has held finance and business operations management positions for the entire product line at the division. He started as a financial analyst and served as business manager for the Block III Virginia-class submarine program. Mulherin also served in director-level business management positions for both submarine and aircraft carrier programs and most recently served as program director for the future USS Doris Miller and future aircraft carriers.
Mulherin earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Virginia Tech and an MBA from The College of William and Mary.
HII has also confirmed that its board of directors elected Chief Operating Officer Christopher Kastner to become HII president and chief executive officer, consistent with the company's succession plan. The board also elected president and CEO Mike Petters to become executive vice chairman of the board for a transition period. Both changes are effective March 1.
Starting March 1, Petters will support the leadership transition as executive vice chairman and will remain an HII employee through 2022, during which time he will continue to represent HII. Succeeding Petters as CEO, Kastner brings extensive leadership and program management experience. Kastner was promoted to his current COO position in February 2021, after serving as HII's executive vice president and chief financial officer since March 2016.
Kastner also served as vice president and CFO for HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division based in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Prior to HII's spin-off from Northrop Grumman in 2011, he held increasingly responsible positions on the B-2, Joint STARS and Global Hawk programs, and served as corporate director of strategic transactions. His selection to succeed Petters is part of HII's multi-year succession planning process.
HII has stated that former General Counsel of the US Department of the Navy Frank R. Jimenez has been elected to the company's board of directors, effective January 27, 2022.
Most recently, Jimenez served as executive vice president and general counsel at Raytheon Technologies Corporation. He has also served as general counsel at Raytheon Company prior to its 2020 merger with United Technologies Corporation, as well as at Bunge, Xylem, and ITT Corporation.
Jimenez received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He also received a Master of Business Administration in finance and strategic management from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies from the US Naval War College, with an emphasis in the law of armed conflict. Jimenez is admitted to the bars of Florida, the District of Columbia, New York and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Lastly, Karey Malyszko has been promoted to vice president of Plant Operations at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division. Malyszko succeeds Dru Branche, who retired in December 2021.
Effective immediately, Malyszko assumes overall responsibility for waterfront support services, facilities, environmental health and safety, and security. She reports to Jennifer Boykin, president of Newport News Shipbuilding.
Malyszko's experience includes more than 18 years of nuclear engineering leadership and radiological work on every program across the shipyard. She joined Newport News in 2004 and has held technical and nuclear engineering management positions. She started as a structural engineer in the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) program.
Malyszko also served in engineering management positions for nuclear propulsion-construction and process engineering, nuclear propulsion test engineering, and most recently served as director of radiological controls.
Malyszko earned a bachelor's degree in engineering science and mechanics from Virginia Tech and a master's degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University.
The Shearer Group (TSGI) recently promoted two key members of the firm's team, Joshua S. Sebastian, P.E. and Harrison C. Brann, P.E.
Sebastian, a 13-year veteran of the firm, has been promoted to the position of Vice President – Operations following a stint as the Engineering Manager of TSGI for eight years. A registered Professional Engineer in Connecticut, Texas, and Washington, he will be responsible for all business aspects of TSGI.
Brann, a seven-year veteran of the firm as a Senior Naval Architect, has been promoted to Engineering Manager following his years of project management experience and receiving his Master of Business degree from Rice University in 2021. Also, a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, Brann will be responsible for managing TSGI's engineering team.
Mark Pearson has been named the new General Manager for UK Dredging (UKD).
Pearson brings valuable experience and knowledge that he has gained in leadership roles in both shipmanagement and ship repair. These senior roles are in companies that include V-Ships, Maersk Line, and OSG Ship Management. As well as being a former seagoing engineer, he holds an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Pearson was serving as the Operations Director at Albwardy Damen in the UAE when he was selected to take up the General Manager post at UKD.
Merja Kallio-Mannila has been appointed as member of the Finnlines Group's Board of Management as of January 1, 2022. She continues in her present roles as Deputy Head of Group Sales, Marketing and Customer Service, and as Head of Sales and Customer Service Finland.
Torkel Saarnio has been appointed as Line Manager HansaLink and Hanko/Helsinki–Rostock and as member of the Finnlines Group's Board of Management as of February 1, 2022. In addition to new responsibilities, he continues in his present roles as Line Manager Helsinki–Aarhus, and as Head of Truck and Trailer Segment.
Seçkin Uz has been appointed Managing Director for Schottel Turkey.
Uz has extensive experience and expertise in the area of ship propulsion. After earning a degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, he began his career with Berg Propulsion in the Asia/Pacific and Middle East region.
Uz had also worked with Caterpillar Marine as Managing Director for its Dubai and Istanbul business units.
As part of a planned succession strategy, the New Year saw a change at the top of Teignbridge Propellers International.
Mark Phare has moved to the position of Group Managing Director, succeeding David Hunt. Hunt remains a Director and shareholder of the company along with David Duncan, the Chairman.
Phare, who has been with Teignbridge for 19 years, previously held the positions of Operations Director and Group Sales & Marketing Director.
Phare began his career as a Deck Officer in the merchant navy, studying at Plymouth University up to Master Mariner and serving for 11 years on a wide range of merchant vessels across the globe. He then joined Caleb Brett (Intertek) for a total of 14 years as a Marine Surveyor and then Operations Manager before moving to Teignbridge in 2003. He has held several senior management roles within the company including Operations Director and Sales and Marketing Director.
Phare is also an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute (AFNI). He is now responsible for all the Teignbridge Group Companies including the UK Headquarters in Newton Abbot, the Foundry and Factory in India, the Sales Office, Workshop and Warehouse in Dubai and the Sales Office in Penang.
Danish maritime designers and naval architects OSK Group begins 2022 with a change of chairman. Søren Jespersen, former CEO of Molslinjen and COO of DFDS, takes over as new Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSK Group, after Ove Rønne relinquished the post after almost three decades.
Jespersen holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne and has served at the boards of directors in more than 30 companies.
Cruise Britain, the UK cruise industry association, has welcomed Port of Tyne's Kate O'Hara as its new Chair, taking the position for a second time, as James Stangroom of Bristol Port Company steps down after four years in the role.
In addition, the Steering Group that oversees and advises on Cruise Britain's activities welcomes new members Rebekah Keeler (Head of Cruise, ABP Southampton), Kate Smith (Passenger Operations Manager, Liverpool Cruise Terminal) and Ian Diaper (Head of Operations, Portsmouth International Port). They join fellow port members James Stangroom (Business Development Manager, Bristol Port Company) and Ian McQuade (General Manager – Commercial, Portland Port), and industry service providers Peter Knight (SVP, Denholm Port Services), Mary Bond (Group Director, Seatrade), and Tom Dynes (Operations Director, Solent Stevedores). James Langley, Director of Marine and Technical Operations at Saga Cruises, continues his role as Cruise Britain's cruise line representative.
O'Hara joined Port of Tyne in 2020 following a successful career in the cruise and wider travel industries. A Northumbria University graduate, she has held senior management positions at Teesside Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, the Port of Dover, and most recently as CEO of London City Cruise Port.

Maartje Wise-Hoevenaars takes on responsibility for all ecological, water technology and water system activities in the Netherlands while Esther Bosman will handle all flood risk management and maritime activities in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Wise-Hoevenaars has worked for Royal HaskoningDHV for over 24 years. She has in-depth knowledge and experience at the interface of climate adaptation and water technology, both in the Netherlands and internationally. Bosman has also worked for Royal HaskoningDHV for 24 years, for 17 of which she has been in management positions within the water team.
Hundested Propeller has appointed Henrik Hamann Juel as CEO with immediate effect.
Hamann Juel brings a wealth of experience from his prior work within the manufacturing of marine generators, aquaculture, and wind energy. His roles have included CEO, COO, and factory ,anager in both medium-sized businesses and large international corporations.
Crowley Maritime Corporation has appointed Coulston Van Gundy as vice president of construction and engineering. He will lead the company's vessel design and engineering, construction management, and project engineering efforts.
With more than 15 years of experience, Van Gundy served in both vessel- and shore-based operational roles in engineering and led maritime development, construction and maintenance services as well as served as an engineering leader for vessel operations.
JFD recently welcomed retired Rear Admiral John Weale, CB, OBE, as Senior Defence Advisor to support the company's continued growth within both the UK and international defence markets.
Weale has gained over 35 years' experience within the Royal Navy, most recently serving as Rear Admiral Submarines (RASM). After his initial training in 1985, he became a volunteer for the Submarine Service and served in both conventional and nuclear submarines. After selection for the Submarine Command Course, he served on various further deployments and an exchange to the US Submarine Force before being promoted to Commander of HMS Trafalgar. He was awarded an OBE in 2008 during his time as Chief of Staff for the UK command of CTF158 in Southern Iraq.
Following promotion to Rear Admiral, Weale assumed the role of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Submarines (ACNS(SM)), Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland (FOSNI) and RASM.
BW Ideol has confirmed its first strategic hire in North America with the appointment of Christopher Dorman as the Head of Development – US.
Reporting directly to BW Ideol's Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Dorman will lead efforts to advance the development of the Vandenberg floating wind pilot-project in California, which may become one of the first wind farms off the west coast of North America, as well as prepare for the forthcoming BOEM lease auctions on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Other leadership roles include serving as the chair of BNOW's Floating Wind Working Group Permitting
subcommittee and sitting on American Clean Power's California Offshore Wind Permitting Working Group.
Dorman was also a member of Pacific Offshore Wind Energy Research's (POWER) Working Group, part of UC
Berkeley's Center for Law, Energy & the Environment.
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has appointed Jochen Eickholt, a member of the executive board at Siemens Energy, as its Chief Executive Officer. Eickholt will take over on March 1, replacing Andreas Nauen.
Eickholt joined the Siemens Energy executive board in January 2020 and became responsible for the Power Generation and Industrial Applications businesses as well Asia-Pacific and China. During a career with Siemens spanning more than 20 years, Eickholt has held a number of senior management positions including Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Mobility and Chairman and Managing Partner of the Siemens Portfolio Companies.
Eickholt studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen in Germany and at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London. After receiving his engineering degree, he went on to earn his doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology.
Corvus Energy has appointed Kolbjørn Berge as Senior Vice President Global Regulatory Affairs.
Previous to joining Corvus Energy, Berge has worked for the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) as responsible for the decarbonisation of shipping. His focus has been safety and regulations for green solutions and the design of current national and international maritime regulations. He has been involved in numerous projects including developing the regulations for the use of LNG, batteries, hydrogen, methanol and ammonia on board ships.
Berge has been a Norwegian delegate in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), a representative in the European Sustainable Shipping Forum, and member of the Norwegian government's strategy committee Maritime 21 in addition to a range of other green shipping programs and initiatives.
Berge commenced in the position on February 1, 2022.
Former shipping banker Ronny Bjornadal has joined the board of Norwegian zero-emissions cruise venture Northern Xplorer (NX) with immediate effect.
With over 25 years of experience in shipping banking, including strong exposure to the cruise industry, Bjornadal will assume an active role as executive director with special focus on debt financing.
Since 2020, Bjornadal has been a partner and managing director of Affinity Shipping and Finance in Oslo. Prior to that, he was Managing Director and Head of Global Maritime Loans at Nordea Bank, responsible for origination, structuring, syndicating and agenting of large syndicated loan facilities and export credit financings in the international bank market.
The Southern Devall Group (TSDG), the combined businesses of Southern Towing and Devall Towing, has promoted Devall Towing Chief Operating Officer Kenny Devall to President and Chief Executive Officer of TSDG.
Chris Sullivan, who served as interim CEO of TSDG, returns to his investment role at CC Industries (CCI) and continues in his role as a board member of TSDG. Additionally, Kevin Conway is promoted to Executive Vice President and General Manager of Southern Towing.
Offshore contractor Havfram has designated Emilie Reeve to lead the company's offshore wind farm development division, Havkraft.
Reeve brings with her a wealth of experience in the global offshore wind market, having advised various government ministries, offshore wind developers and development banks on how to enter, develop and accelerate existing and emerging offshore wind markets, notably, UK Round 4 and Japan Round 1. Previously holding roles as Manager of offshore renewable energy for the Carbon Trust and the Board of Directors of the US National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium, Reeve joins Havfram from her most recent role as Director and EMEA Business Development Lead and Strategy Lead at the Renewables Consulting Group.

Associated British Ports (ABP) has appointed Karel Drastich as Head of Corporate Development for the group.
Reporting to Julian Walker, Chief Commercial Officer, the position is newly created to accelerate the delivery of ABP's long-term business strategy, focusing on corporate development.
Drastich has spent much of his career in M&A and corporate development, leading multi-functional deal teams across a range of sectors, ranging from mining to global transportation and port operations to ship management and marine services.
Drastich took up this role on January 4, 2022.
Philippos Philis has been appointed as new President of the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) by the General Assembly for a two-year term starting in January with Karin Orsel as new Vice-President. Philis succeeds Claes Berglund, who served as President since 2020.
Philis founded shipowning and shipmanagement company Lemissoler in 1996 and served as Chairman and CEO of the group since 2009. He has studied at RWTH Aachen in Mechanical Engineering and he is a Harvard Business School (HBS) graduate. Philis is also Immediate Past President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC).
Orsel became a shipowner and maritime entrepreneur at the age of 23 and has been CEO of her shipmanagement company MF Shipping Group since 2001. In 2017, she was appointed President of the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners.
Miller, an independent specialist (re)insurance broker, has appointed Nick King to lead the expansion of the broker's Marine offering in Singapore.
King brings with him extensive relationships and vast knowledge, developed over 15 years operating in the London and Asian markets.
King joins from Howden Specialty Asia Pacific, where he was most recently a Divisional Director. Prior to that, he held positions at JLT Re and Aon Singapore.
Along with three newly appointed members, Eastern Pacific Shipping CEO Cyril Ducau joins the Board of the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) together with its incoming Chairman Hor Weng Yew, currently Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Carriers (PCL).
As a Board member, Ducau will work together with the rest of the Board and SMF team as they continue to support the local maritime community and its talent pipeline.
The appointment came into effect on January 1, 2022.
Maritime consultants GMCG Global has appointed Nandlal Aher as Managing Director for the India and East Africa region.
As part of his new role with GMCG, Aher will also be responsible for the company's offshore division as its new global head. He takes with him to GMCG a wealth of experience in the marine, offshore, oil and gas industries and is a qualified mechanical engineer as well as Chartered Engineer registered with IET UK. His experience spans more than 20 years with classification societies, shipyards, engineering consultancies and global upstream oil and gas companies.
Before joining GMCG, Aher headed up Offshore Division in DNV for the Middle East and Southeast Europe. He has also worked in Global Consultancy and Engineering business prior joining to GMCG.
Aher will also be responsible for the overall financial performance of the Indian sub-continent business, combining this with his new role as global head of the company's offshore division.
My Therese Blank has been appointed as a new director of Shipping Australia. She is currently Maersk Group's Head of Oceania Market and she has responsibility for ocean business in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
Blank has more than 15 years of experience in the shipping and logistics industries across Europe, Asia, and Oceania. She has held several senior leadership positions within Maersk, including Australia Sales and Country Director and Oceania Area Customer Service Director. In 2013, she established Maersk in Myanmar as Country Director. Her first role in regional capacity management was as part of the Maersk Management Trainee Programme.
Blank holds a master's degree in business and economics from Uppsala University, Sweden.
American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC) has named Kelly Wilson Clark as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel.
Clark has extensive experience leading legal and compliance organisations in the maritime industry. Her former employers include Carnival Corporation.
The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has appointed Shell's Head of Shipping and Maritime in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Nick Potter, as the new OCIMF Chairman.
Potter takes over from Chevron Shipping Company President Mark Ross, who has completed his four-year term.
The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) has appointed industry veteran Chris Clucas as Interim General Manager until a permanent replacement for Andrew Clifton can be recruited. Clucas is expected to be in the role for four to six months.
Clucas is Principal at Liquefied Gas Consultancy. He has around 50 years of working experience in the industry and has been appointed as past Chair of SIGTTO's General Purposes Committee as well past Chair of the SIGTTO Panel.
He was also elected Founder President of SIGTTO's sister organisation, the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). He is SGMF's current Secretary.
Michael Holm has joined the IMC Industrial Group as the Managing Director for Dry Bulk. He will be responsible for IMC's Dry Bulk business and work closely with Dry Bulk commercial directors TK Kim and Keith Denholm (FICS) to execute the group's asset-light strategy and grow its operating and liner businesses.
With a career in the maritime industry spanning over 36 years, Holm has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in chartering and trading. He has held key positions in various shipping hubs across the world.
Sergey Pylin has been appointed to the position of General Director of Russian port operator Rosmorport.
For almost 12 years, Pylin managed the North-Western Basin Branch of the enterprise. During this time, projects for building hydraulic structures were realised, new water areas were put into operation, and work was done to improve the system for ensuring the safety of navigation in the seaports of Saint Petersburg, Ust-Luga, Vyborg, Vysotsk, and Kaliningrad.
Pylin graduated from Frunze Higher Naval School with a specialisation in ship armament. In 2002, he graduated from St. Petersburg Institute of Foreign Economic Relations, Economics and Law with a specialisation in jurisprudence. He has a PhD in law and a scientific degree of assistant professor in the department of constitutional and municipal law.
From April 2010 to August 2010, Pylin held the position of Deputy Director for development of Rosmorport's St. Petersburg Branch. In September 2010 he was appointed to the position of Director of the St. Petersburg branch, which was renamed into the Rosmorport North-Western Basin Branch in March 2011.
Sunderland Marine, the fixed premium insurance division of North P&I, has appointed Mia Bredenberg as Australian branch manager, effective January 31, 2022.
Bredenberg joined Sunderland Marine on January 31 as the Branch Manager for Sunderland Marine's Australian operations. As part of the Underwriting team, she will be primarily responsible for managing and developing Sunderland Marine's insurance business in the region, covering the aquaculture and fishing, coastal and specialist vessel teams. In addition, she will oversee the policy and operational direction of the branch and ensure compliance with Sunderland Marine's financial services licence and other regulatory requirements.
Bredenberg inherits responsibility for Sunderland's Australian operations from Chris Kennedy, who has completed ten years in Melbourne. Kennedy is returning to New Zealand and will work from the Nelson office. He will continue to provide general support for the region, primarily with the Aquaculture industry.
Prior to joining Sunderland Marine, Bredenberg was National Operations Manager, and more recently, Head of Administration and Finance at Club Marine.
Robert Mærsk Uggla has been nominated as the new Chair of the Board and Marc Engel as new Vice Chair of A. P. Moller–Maersk's Board of Directors. The appointments will take effect after the company's annual general meeting on March 15, 2022.
Current Chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe, who will not be re-elected, will continue as an advisor to the new Chair of the Board and the Board of Directors.
Uggla has been CEO of A.P. Moller Holding since 2016 while Engel has served on A.P. Moller–Maersk's Board of Directors since 2019 and sits on the Board's Transformation and Innovation Committee.Engel is also outgoing Chief Supply Chain Officer of Unilever and has extensive executive experience of global operations and supply chains, logistics, procurement and sustainability.
ABS has appointed specialist Stamatis Fradelos as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs.
Fradelos will return to ABS' Athens office, where he was previously Business Director and member of the IACS Environmental Panel.
Fradelos, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and a Chartered Engineer of the UK Engineering Council, has a strong engineering background with a M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, a M.Sc in Marine Technology and Science and a M.Sc in Techno-Economic Systems.
ABS has also appointed digital product veteran Paul Sells to lead its global digital solutions development. As Global Head of Digital Solutions, he will oversee the delivery of solutions to support compliance, sustainability and operational goals.
Sells, who holds several patents, joins ABS from Mira Labs, where he was Vice President of Customer Experience. He also served in the US Navy, where he was a Lead Petty Officer. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received a Master of Business Administration from the College of William and Mary.
Giuseppe Falsetti has taken up a new position with Malta Shipbrokers International.
Falsetti's prior work experience includes his tenure with Genoa-based broker Banchero Costa. His focus in this earlier company was on chartering, sale and purchase, and demolition of container vessels and Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferries.

Gunnar Nielsen has been appointed to the position of CFO at Norwegian fish farm company SalMar, with effect from April 1, 2022.
Nielsen has served in a number of senior executive positions in the seafood, banking, industrial and auditing sectors. In addition, he has extensive experience in board and financial management, reporting and communication in listed companies. His prior work assignments include five years as CFO of Bakkafrost.
Nielsen holds a Master of Science in Business Economics and Auditing from Copenhagen Business School.
