Saipem subsidiary Moss Maritime is participating in a project that seeks to develop a new open ocean fish farming concept for Norwegian aquaculture company Aqualoop.

The proposed fish farm will be completed as part of the Aqualoop Big Dipper project. The farm is being developed with the capacity to produce up to 20,000 tons of Atlantic Salmon in one year.

Moss Maritime has been conducting engineering services from feasibility studies to the current design validation and test campaign using a scale model of the proposed fish farm. The new solution will focus on Atlantic Salmon but can be applied to other fish in any ocean temperature zone and weather conditions. The onboard support systems will help facilitate the optimal biological production of fish.

The fish farm concept received approval and certification from classification society DNV in 2023. Testing of the scale model is being undertaken at the Trondheim facilities of Norwegian research organisation SINTEF.
