Cargill has expanded its Indian operations, inaugurating an aquaculture technology application centre (TAC) at Kaikaluru, weeks after opening the first fish feed plant at Vijayawada.

The TAC is designed to help farmers access innovations and apply the best possible solutions to grow healthy seafood and earn higher profits.

The centre covers 3.60 hectares and hosts 20 fish and shrimp ponds. It also features a training facility and research station that supports innovation in aquaculture feed development.

The company plans to open other TACs in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and India by mid-2018.

The centre also has the purpose of educating and training fish and shrimp farmers in feed application and better management practices, for increased efficiency and profitability.

It comes weeks after opening its first feed mill dedicated to Indian fish species.

Strategically located in the Andhra Pradesh region, it produces fish feed products for tilapia and other warm water species.

The US$10 million plant, with a capacity of 90,000 tonnes per year, enables Cargill to triple its fish feed capacity in India.
